Choosing the Right Home for YouApril 13th, 2011 Choosing a home that is right for you could be overwhelming due to the staggering number of homes for sale in the market these days. Nevertheless, the key to finding the right home for you is to consider the needs and lifestyles of your family. Do not let anybody influence you on the type of home that you should buy. Remember, there are several things to take into consideration when looking for a dwelling. The first thing to consider when looking for a home is its location and the neighborhood it belongs to. A home in the country or in suburbs are more affordable, most of them are newly built but could take up a lot of time going to and from work and far from entertainment options in cities. If you choose a home in urban areas, you could be closer to your work and just a few distance from restaurants, schools and entertainment centers. However, there is a possibility that the area is noisy, expensive and with higher crime rates. A home in a corner lot often has bigger lots with few neighbors and also more visible. However, the traffic noise could disturb you and you are more vulnerable to vehicles passing by and children could trespass at the corner. When it comes to the types of homes for you, a single-family home provides opportunity for gardens, you will get to enjoy more privacy and peace. Single-family homes are more expensive and requires more maintenance. Townhomes, cooperatives and condos are more affordable than single-family homes, most of them are new and provide easy lifestyle because there are no yards or gardens to maintain. However, these types of dwellings are noisier with lesser privacy because of the common walls or floors. A one-story home is perfect for invalid persons and the elderly due to the absence of stairs to climb and easier to clean. Nevertheless, this kind of home could be noisier when TVs and stereos are on the same floor as the bedrooms and most of the home area is utilized by living quarters. A home that has two or more storys provide more living space, more privacy and less noisier when you entertain friends on the lower level. However, you have to do several trips up and down stairs to carry things to bedrooms and difficult to maintain consistent temperatures on every level if there is no dual cooling and heating units. A split level home is cheaper when the lower area is unfinished and the higher ceilings are attractive. This home also has more square area on same size lots like ranch homes. This home type has less storage and inconvenient to take trash downstairs and carry your shopping items upstairs. The kitchen in this type of home is smaller. When choosing a home that is right for you, you have to consider how many bedrooms and bathrooms you need. The standard number for most homes are three. Most people choose more than one bathroom. When it comes to square footage, larger areas offer more room and costs less per square foot compared to smaller areas. However, keep in mind that the layout is more important than the actual square footage since a well-designed space could appear bigger. It is important to weigh your options well when looking for a home that is right for you and if you find one, remember that you may not be the only interested on it so prepare the necessary items and documents in order to close the deal on the property.
