Advice on the Different Types of UPVC Conservatories Available

June 15th, 2009

Are you tired of the UK climate? Fed up because you are always stuck in doors? Wish you had more space? Then a conservatory could be the answer for you. A conservatory allows you to benefit from the beauty of the outdoors whilst being in the comfort of your home where you decide the temperature. Conservatories are also a great way to add value to your home and increase the size of your living space.

Over the past 20 years conservatories have changed dramatically and the invention of UPVC double glazing has turned conservatories into a year round usable space. The variety of styles to choose from is endless. First of all is the glass itself do you want plain glass, leaded glass or stained glass? Do you want floor to ceiling windows or do you want a dwarf wall?

Then there is the design of the conservatory from traditional to modern conservatories. Traditional conservatory styles include Victorian conservatories easily identifiable by their bay front and inclined roof and are suitable for most house types. Edwardian conservatories are unique due to their rectangular foot print and pitched roof, they have dwarf walls giving you a window sill all the way around which can be used for plants and other display pieces. Then there are Mediterranean conservatories sometimes known as sun lounges. These are great when space is at a premium. They have small angled pitched roofs allowing them to fit in spaces where other conservatories won’t. Or maybe a bespoke custom made conservatory or orangery you would be more suited to your needs. Choose from B-Shaped, T-Shaped, L-shaped or P-shaped.

Then you need to decide do you want to add doors to your conservatory. If so do you want patio doors, French doors or really let the outside in with bi-fold doors.

Conservatories are also highly durable, double glazed and can be made to suit your needs. A UPVC Conservatory is also really easy to maintain with no wood work to paint. They can be used throughout the year they are warm and welcoming in the winter and a cool retreat in the summer months. A conservatory is also a really versatile space great for entertaining, perfect for a lazy Sunday breakfast or a sanctuary away from the kids. The possibilities with a conservatory are endless and once you have had one you won’t know how you ever lived without one.
