Where Do You Want to Live? In the Desert, Prairie, Water Or Mountains?

March 21st, 2010

In a poll of where people want to live, a common answer would be Colorado. For many people, the mountains are the place to live. Telluride is a great city for Colorado living. To get a good tour of available Telluride properties, contact a Telluride real estate agent. If you are a mountain person, you will love what you see. I just used the phrase mountain person. There are actually four types of people in this country: mountain people, desert people, prairie people, and water people. Each of these groups feels the most comfortable and the most joy in their particular area. We will save my favorite for last.

The desert is a favorite environment for many people. These people love the heat, dryness, and sunshine of the desert. The vistas have a special uniqueness that is not seen anywhere else. They range from the highs of the rocky Painted Desert to the lows of Death Valley. While other areas get their colors from the lush vegetation and lakes, the desert has the broad range of colors that include every shade of brown, with many yellows, reds, grays and even blues. Many people spend time in the desert because it stimulates their creativity and they find their spiritual selves there.

The prairie is a favorite of many others. However, it is very sad that large portions of the prairie no longer exist. The land is flat, allowing the vista to spread over a long distance. One time I was in the second story of a building in Central Illinois and thought I could see my home in Ohio in the distance. These days, the prairie lands are made up mostly of modern metropolitan centers and corn and wheat fields.

Water provides a wide variety of activities. The main attraction is the beach, whether it is on the salty ocean or surrounding a fresh lake. Beaches bring out our indolence. We relax under the sun to bake out our knots and cares. But fun on the water can be lazy or active. The boat can go slowly for relaxation and fishing or fast for water skiing and jet-skiing.

Finally, let us look at the mountain person. What is the attraction of the mountains, particularly the Rockies? For outdoorsy people, the mountains are a great place to be. There is so much to do in every season. The most obvious are winter sports. Yes. A lot of snow falls on the mountains in the winter. And if the winter is disappointing in its snow delivery, the resorts can fall back on their artificial snow. Snow lovers have a large choice of outdoor activities. On the mountain sides, there are skiing and snowboarding. But if you are not a skier, there are other vehicles for sliding down the hill, such as sleds, “tubes,” and toboggans. On flatter ground there are other options. If you like to ski, you can go cross-country skiing. If not, you can hike wearing snowshoes. As you can see, I lean toward the fun to be had in the winter season.

Connor Sullivan considered purchasing several Telluride properties last summer before the recession. He and his wife made a decision to buy Telluride real estate to use as a second home.
