How You Should Decide Where You Want To Live

July 25th, 2011

Sure, the thought of moving to a new city is quite exciting and tempting. But before blindly throwing yourself into the arms of a real estate agent and asking him to find you a new place to live, there are numerous factors that you need to thoroughly examine.

Of course the final decision will be made considering the overall quality a place has to offer and the level of happiness it will provide you. But there are some more pragmatic factors that need to be taken into account when deciding to move from one city to another.

First of all, probably one of the most important aspects that you should look into is the cost of living in a certain city of your choice. Bigger cities are more expensive to live in comparison to smaller cities or even towns. You should decide what type of lifestyle you want and then determine how you are going to pay for it all.

So, if you are going to rent an apartment in a big city make sure you don’t end up paying more than one third of your monthly income. Everything that goes over this amount will definitely influence your cost of living in a negative way, as you won’t be able to afford a lot of things.

You should also make sure you choose a city with a small crime rate, where you won’t risk being robbed on every street corner. It is very useful to make an online research before you decide on a certain city or neighborhood.

Next, make sure you have enough job opportunities and the unemployment rate is small. Don’t hesitate to find out how much are paid vacation days in the city you are planning to move in and other similar useful information. The more money you can get out of a great paying job, the better home you can afford to pay for.

Moreover, make sure there are enough supermarkets or grocery stores, schools, libraries, hospitals, banks and restaurants in the area. Also make sure the public transportation system is a good functional one you could use. Reducing your commute time can save you stress and allow you to spend more time with your friends and family.

Look for recreational options and don’t hesitate to learn about the weather and general climate of a city. These are of course just some of the factors you should consider when deciding to move to another city.
